Tree planting in Sawley, Ripon
Last week, a team of S+SA volunteers headed to a farm in Sawley, Ripon to support a local community project, Trees for Nidderdale, planting 330 trees and shrubs.
Working with members of the Harrogate and Ripon Rotary Clubs and Gabby Crisp of the National Trust we spent the morning planting a variety of trees and shrubs including Oak, Birch, Willow, Rowan, Alder, Hawthorns, Crab Apple, and Blackthorn.
The tree planting forms part of the Skell Valley project, a project designed to create a sustainable future for the Skell Valley. Extreme flooding events have caused irreparable damage to Fountains Abbey and the high level of silt deposited in the river is threatening its ecology. By planting new trees in the area it creates natural flood management to reduce the flood risk and slow the flow of water.

Our time spent volunteering was not only rewarding but also thoroughly enjoyable. Following our efforts, we stopped off on the way back to the office for a bite to eat in the picturesque village of Ripley. A morning well spent if you ask us!
We look forward to future opportunities to lend our support to the Trees for Nidderdale project, as we remain committed to fostering the environmental well-being of our community.
