The introduction of the Building Safety Act 2022 has fundamentally changed the responsibilities of those involved in the design and delivery of buildings. At S+SA, we recognised the significance of these changes early and invested in developing the knowledge, skills, and processes required to undertake the Building Regulations Principal Designer (BRPD) role with confidence and competence.
We provide BRPD services on projects where we are appointed as Architects, ensuring that design work is planned, managed, monitored, and coordinated to achieve compliance with the Building Regulations 2010. We work closely with clients and design teams across a range of sectors, helping navigate increasingly complex regulatory requirements while maintaining a clear focus on building safety and quality.
The Building Safety Act places greater responsibility on dutyholders throughout the design and construction process. We take a proactive leadership role, supporting the design team to identify, manage, and coordinate compliance requirements from the earliest stages of a project through to completion.
To ensure our competence, we align with the BSI’s PAS 8671 specification, which defines the necessary qualifications and expertise for Principal Designers.
Our approach combines robust leadership with a deep understanding of Building Regulations to guide the design team effectively and ensure compliance at every stage of the process.

S+SA also provides Principal Designer services under the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015 (CDM 2015), helping clients fulfil their legal duties and manage health and safety risks during the pre-construction phase.
When appointed as designers, we can undertake the CDM Principal Designer role in-house, providing a coordinated approach that integrates design quality, regulatory compliance, and risk management.
Our team plans, manages, and coordinates health and safety considerations throughout the design process, working collaboratively with clients, consultants, and contractors to identify and eliminate foreseeable risks wherever possible.
By addressing health and safety risks early in the design process, we help create safer environments for those who construct, maintain, use, and ultimately occupy the buildings we design.

We provide BRPD and CDM services for an additional fee where we are appointed as Designers. We work closely with clients and design teams across a range of sectors, helping navigate increasingly complex regulatory requirements while maintaining a clear focus on building safety and quality.
"Working with SSA is always simple and effective. Their approach is knowledgeable, direct, and timely, allowing for a seamless flow in meeting set deadlines and requirements. We’ve collaborated with SSA Architects on a multitude of retail projects, both large and small format. Communication and delivery have consistently been excellent. I primarily work with Callum, known as “the oracle” by myself and Project Managers on the client side. His unparalleled understanding of client specifications and his off-the-cuff, concise knowledge of every project he’s involved in are genuinely impressive. The service is always professional—and always with a smile. I would highly recommend working with SSA across our industry for their cohesive approach, quick solutions, and outstanding professionalism."
