Project: Proposed dwelling within a greenfield site.
Client: Developer Client
Status: Pre-Planning application stage only
The Commission
S+SA developed an interesting proposal which used the site constraints to its advantage, the first floor of the barn style structure was twisted at 90 degrees to reduce the amount of solar gain on the bedrooms and provide solar shading to the ground floor external terrace resulting in social/living spaces which received the majority of the sun and bedroom spaces which took advantage of the morning and evening sun.
The twisting of the first floor also enabled the dwelling to take advantage of the great views to the rear and of the beck during the day with the fields to either side.
The proposal was completely bespoke for the site and utilised brick, black timber cladding and a zinc/metal roof, all of which were common materials found within the agricultural buildings surrounding the property.
Our Input
S+SA provided an architectural service RIBA stage 0-3.
Our Value
We provided the scheme in a sketchy style along with precedents and materials to enable the pre-planning application to be submitted to the council. The presentation material used contained the level of detail required for the pre-application and the design received positive comments.
Disability Action Yorkshire have a long relationship with SSA-Architects which began with the design of our residential home for younger adults with physical disabilities when they impressed us with their commitment to ensuring that the design aided full accessibility and independence. They have remained firm supporters of and amongst other events run an annual bike ride raising much needed funds to support our work. They show a genuine interest in our work and in the ongoing needs and aspirations of disabled people. We consider SSA-Architects to be true and valued friends of the charity.
