TESCO,
SHREWSBURY

Project Overview

Project: New Food Retail Store
Client: Tesco Stores Limited
Size: 90,000 sq ft
Status: Completed

This 90,000 sq ft store project for Tesco Extra in Shrewsbury was remarkable in a number of ways. It is their first store in England to have been constructed using a laminated structural timber frame, which supports modern energy-efficient composite materials.

Heating and cooling are achieved using water from geo thermal bore holes, and part of the lighting requirement is met by electricity generated by photo-voltaic cells on the site’s south facing slope.  Designated as an Eco-Store, it demonstrates Tesco’s commitment to the development of environmentally friendly stores with low carbon footprints.
