Project: City Centre Retirement Living
Client: Confidential
Status: Design Stage
Overview
We were invited to tender for a significant retirement living development that forms part of a larger town centre masterplan. The project aims to provide high-quality senior living, delivering a minimum of 100 residential units whilst creating new city linkages.
Design Approach
A key aspect of our design approach is ensuring that living spaces are adaptable to meet the evolving needs of residents. The design prioritises flexibility to accommodate changing physical requirements over time. This includes catering to the distinct needs of couples, where individual care needs may vary, requiring thoughtful planning of space.
The development aspires to create an environment that promotes both independence and social interaction. For example, the design incorporates an “arrival hub” or café space that encourages social engagement. This space not only serves as a focal point but also fosters a sense of community by creating a welcoming and interactive environment.
Positioned within a broader regeneration masterplan, the design integrates high-quality public and private spaces. Well-defined built edges establish a strong relationship with the local context, adding value to the surrounding urban fabric.
This project reflects a holistic approach to retirement living, with adaptability, community engagement, and contextual sensitivity at the forefront. By incorporating flexible living spaces and fostering social interaction, the development aims to create a high-quality, future-proof environment for senior residents, all within the framework of a thoughtfully designed town centre masterplan.
"They were central to and acted as the main conduit between the Trust’s Client representative and numerous Key Stakeholders involved, resulting in a participative and consultative design process, benefitting the Project as a whole”.
