Project: The design of a mixed use scheme in a National park
Client: Undisclosed
Size: 45,000sqft
Status: Detailed Design
The commission brief was for the design of a mixed use facility in a national park.
The design included, a hotel, a museum, a micro-brewery and local produce store, a food store, retail space and restaurants.
Due to the sensitivity of the site it was vital to provide detailed design at an early stage to ensure that we met with the local authorities aspirations. The scheme required exceptional design with quality local materials, the design response therefore interpreted the local vernacular to be delivered in a contemporary development. The site is highly visible from both the immediate loci, but also the surrounding mountains and thus the design context remained foremost in the design response developed.
"People living in the National Park tell us affordable housing is a key concern for them....It is wonderful therefore to see this development at Danby not only opened but occupied"
Val Dilcock, Chief Planning Officer - North York Moors National Park Authority
