Project: The design and delivery of contemporary social housing – 6 Apartments and 10 dwellings
Client: Yorkshire Housing
Size: 10,500 sq ft
Status: Completed
The project provides 16 new dwellings of mixed tenure. The site layout was very linear exempting us from using any typical building layout. We designed layouts to be staggered to use the available space more effectively.
The area’s original housing is predominantly 2 storeys, however it also has 3 storey flats. By placing the 3 storey apartment element centrally to the scheme a pivot form is created off which the housing elements are stepped to each side.
The scheme was designed to achieve an Eco-Homes rating of “very good”.
“Affordable Housing Schemes like those at Danby and Castleton are a tribute to the success of partnership working involving the National Park Authority, Parish Councils, Rural Housing Enablers, borough or district Councillors, landowners and others”
